The remarkable photo below
includes a North
American Texan (USN SNJ, USAF T-6) of the same general type used for
training at Spence in WW2 and again from 1951-54, in formation with the
newer Texan II T-6A currently used for training by the US armed forces. A similar picture appeared on the cover of a recent Trade-A-Plane publication and when contacted for permission to use the picture they referred me to Jim Tobul of Bamberg, SC. Jim graciously gave us permission to use the picture on the Spence Web Site to be enjoyed by it's viewers. I believe you will also enjoy visiting Jim's web site at www.scwarbirds.com . The caption on the TAP photo reads; "Texan I & Texan II - Pictured in the foreground is a 1943 SNJ-4 owned and flown by Jim Tobul of Bamberg, SC. Off his wing is a 2003 USAF T6-A "Texan II" with Capt. Mike Rambo of Burleson, TX at the controls. Photographed by Mike Riffle of Cataula, GA." |
